Celebrated for his iconic Hollywood film scores — most notably through his long collaboration with Tim Burton — Elfman reveals, in the Piano Quartet, an intense and refined chamber writing that retains all of his unmistakable expressive voice.
The work is driven by relentless rhythms, harmonic tensions, and subtly unsettling atmospheres — hallmarks of the composer's language which, stripped of the spectacle of cinema and orchestra, acquire here a new transparency and an even more direct expressive force. The musicians of the Quartetto Klimt approach this score with great technical command and an almost "rock" energy, combining interpretive precision with communicative impulse. The result is a vivid and engaging reading, one that restores to Elfman the stature of the great chamber repertoire without sacrificing the freshness and immediacy of his language.
